3D Mammography

JRMC was the FIRST  facility in North Dakota to offer 3D mammography for breast cancer screening. 3D mammography (breast tomosynthesis) helps radiologists identify and characterize individual breast structures without the confusion of overlapping tissue.

The mammography equipment provides direct digital screening and diagnostic 2D and 3D mammograms. With a radiologist on site daily, all mammograms are viewed immediately after they are performed. This provides the opportunity to perform any additional mammographic views or breast ultrasound images at the same visit, if needed.

JRMC 3D Mammography is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. JRMC met ACR Practice Guidelines and mammo2271Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed.

The center’s Selenia® Dimensions® 3D mammography system is made by Hologic, a world leader in digital mammography. 3D mammography offers exceptionally sharp breast images, an advanced ergonomic design providing more patient comfort, and the ground-breaking 3D mammography platform designed to deliver superior screening and diagnostic performance. Breast cancer screening with 3D mammography when combined with a conventional 2D mammography has a higher cancer detection rate than conventional 2D mammography alone. Radiologists are reporting that 3D mammography technology gives them increased confidence with a significant reduction in recall rates.

Affirm On Dimensions with MammoChair Group

During a 3D mammogram exam, multiple, low-dose images of the breast are acquired at different angles.  These images are then used to produce a series of one-millimeter thick slices that can be viewed as a 3D reconstruction of the breast.

By offering women the latest technology in mammography, JRMC hopes to increase the number of area women who will be routinely screened.  Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer.  Statistics indicate that one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her lifetime. The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman’s chance of survival. If detected early, the five-year survival rate is 98 percent.

JRMC is committed to the fight against breast cancer. In offering 3D mammography, JRMC provides the latest in imaging quality. JRMC has been named a Pink Ribbon Facility for its dedication to detecting breast cancer earlier with 3D mammography.

AIMEE TESKE · Registered Mammography Tech

Aimee Teske has joined the JRMC Radiology Department as a registered mammography tech. Aimee graduated from radiology technology school in Sioux Falls, SD and she received a bachelor’s degree from Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD.

Aimee and her husband operate a farm in the rural Edgeley area. They have two daughters, eight and 10 years old, and two lab retriever mix dogs. In her spare time, Aimee enjoys camping, fishing, gardening, canning, and traveling when possible.

After working on the family farm and raising her family, Aimee decided it was time to once again go back to her passion of radiology. “I am very excited to start his new chapter in my life, stepping into the ‘off the farm’ working field again.” said Aimee. “Women’s health has always had a special place tucked back in my mind and I am happy now to be part of the mammography team here at JRMC.”

Each year, JRMC, JRMC Foundation, Central Valley Health and Women’s Way host No Excuses 3D Mammogram and Pap Test Day. For more information, visit our No Excuses page.
