It is our vision to be the best rural hospital in the country for patients to receive care, employees to work and providers to practice. To accomplish our vision, JRMC believes it is vital to have a strong community bond. We strive to align our values with those of the community to ensure we are the healthiest community to live, learn, work and play.

JRMC partners with others in the community to develop, sustain, communicate and do more to enhance the communities where employees, providers, friends and families live and work.

As a non-profit hospital, JRMC participates in a community needs assessment every three years. The findings of the assessment are useful in determining health and healthcare demands. JRMC works collaboratively to develop a Community Health Improvement Plan. Pooling resources, sharing priorities and coordinating actions all work to maximize the plan’s impact.

Community Health Assessment (CHA): A process that engages with community members and LPHS partners to systematically collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative health-related data from a variety of sources within a specific community. The findings of the CHA are presented in the form of a community health profile and inform community decision-making, the prioritization of health problems and the development and implementation of community health improvement plans.

Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP): An action-oriented plan outlining the priority community health issues (based on the community health assessment findings and community member and LPHS partner input) and how these issues will be addressed, including strategies and measures, to ultimately improve the health of a community. The CHIP is developed through the community health improvement process.

JRMC is a lead partner in the execution of this plan around four, key community health initiatives:

  • obesity & physical activity
  • safe driving
  • youth alcohol & smoking
  • mental health awareness & suicide
